Well since I have no hope of finding regular work I am offering my help with your summer projects (roofing, siding, additions, auto repairs, landscaping, etc, etc). If you are within a few hours I will be available to assist you (and this is the best part) for free. PM me and we will talk.

Oh yeah I am 30 miles west of The Cities.

Hmmmm. 30 miles west of the twin cities is St. Bonifacius or Watertown. . . maybe Waconia?

Lived just west of St. Boni for several years. That place was called SunnyBank. Loved the Spring, Summer and Fall, couldn't handle the Winters.

Things are tough all over and I feel for everybody that is "employment restricted" as the "economy" dictates. As for myself I have applied for as many as 100 jobs in one month. Most of the time I am regarded as over/under qualified and the rest "too expensive".By expensive I mean that with my knowledge ,experience, ability and productive capabilities in my field a minimum of $17 an hour to start but the offers are $10 to start with a quarter after 90 days AND have to travel 70 to 80 miles one way to get there. We have a pizza company near here that has a TOP PAY of $11 an hour and I can't even get them to talk to me.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant (probably is) but it is past frustrating.

not a rant at all, I've been there, took 8 months and going back to school to start another degree before I got back in the work field. that was a few years ago though. This time seems much worse for many people.
I went as low as saying I would accept $8/hr and they wouldn't talk to me. "you'll just leave if a better opp comes along" was the normal reason I was given.
Best of luck.

if it's any consolation my dad who is 61 just got put back to work. thought he was going to be out for good at his age but someone took a chance on him. he was laid off for just under a year.

Exactly.......business is fleeing Minnesota while the lawmakers are trying to figure out how to raise taxes.

Bleak is the word, I believe.

Hey Bart, we should go throw some bait at Clearwater Lake.

I know what you mean, times are tough. My best friend is in the same boat, so to speak. He was laid off just over a year ago. He's been sending out 2 to 3 resumes a day since then. He has experience as a parts man at an auto dealership and a forklift repair company, as well as having done maintenance work at several apartment complexes, and he can't find a job.

I'll tell you the same thing I keep telling him. Hang in there, things will get better.

Re: Offering My Help

A friend of mine that is in his mid 60's needed extra income and couldn't get hired for anything anywhere. My wife told him to run an ad in the local classifieds as a rent-a-husband for odd jobs. Now he is making extra cash while meeting some women. Just a thought............SS

Re: Offering My Help

Wish we would have know your situation earlier.
We were hiring for 4 years straight.
We got in a hole while trying to expand several departments, and couldn't get people hired and trained fast enough.

Could have just about guaranteed getting a paycheck. And if you were here by Jan 1st, you would be hired on full time by now, $12.70 to start, full benefits, wages to $16 an hour, $18 for crew leaders, or $19 to start in the maint shop, up to $29 an hour.

Company stopped hiring April first, as orders have dropped off. And most of us are down to 40 hours a week.

Last year we trained 600 people to retain 100.
In 2008, we trained 900 people to retain 100.
We have finally balanced our work load to labor.

I wish I would have sold my house a year ago, then I would have you helping on a new yard, shed, and......

Keep pounding the small to medium shops, 25 to 75 employees, they should rebound first.

So sorry to hear of your situation.
Unfortunately we are too far apart. We are actually hiring. Comparable wages that you were saying as well.
Hope things improve for you.

Re: Offering My Help

Offer to work free for a business that may/will be able to hire you, it makes more sense than working for free for peope who can never hire.
In the meantime, create your own job , craigslist is where its at.
Clean basements out , demo work, odd job repair work etc.
Or stand outside home depot, you speak english , thats an asset.

Bart, As I said in your other thread. Why not get your Class A or B CDL license ??.
I made a very good living from truck driving and NEVER got laid-off in 33yrs. :)

Now I take part-time driving jobs just to keep busy.
My phone is always ringing from trucking company's that need help.

Re: Offering My Help

If you're bored out of your mind and needing something to stay busy. You could volunteer at a hospital in your city. There will be plenty for you to do and perhaps you can get in with the maintenance dept. or something. At least you can get free breakfast, lunch, coffee and plenty of eye candies. :D

I Got my CDL when i turned 21 and used it off and on. Now, i got laid off 2 years ago and i fell back on trucking. Only thing that pays the bills right now for me and there are good jobs where you are home every day or so. something to look into.
