Hello...
I would like to have somebody well-versed in Marine Electrical to view a proposed layout for an entirely new electrical system. I'am in the midst of hooking-up all of my electrical components for my new boat and I couldn't find a diagram / drawing ... that was complete with all my needs.

I drew-up a diagram that illustrates my Mercury 25 hp. Electrical Start Outboard,(2) battery set-up, Perko Batt Switch 1,2,(all)Off Pro Mariner Onboard Charger, and a breaker panel for my accessories, and a - bus-bar.

I could not find a way to post up the diagram on this forum however, I could E-Mail it to anyone willing to take a look at it and evaluate and/or critique it. Thank You for any effort you may afford .... Tim
My E-Mail is: timhagger5000@yahoo.com

.
.

I would rcommend using an isolator. They control battery charging and will keep the alternator from over charging or under charging batteries.

Hook your onboard charger wire to the #1 and #2 terminals on the battery switch.

Hook up fuse block +lead wire to the common terminal on the switch. Be sure to fuse the 12 volt +lead to the fuse block.

Do not connect the batteries negative terminals directly together. Use a remote, common buss bar and connect each battery negative lead to the bar. Then use this bar for all of your ground leads including accessories and engine.

R.P.
Thank You for your assistance!

I still have an open question?

I have a positive and negative wire comming out of every accessory ... VHF Radio, Search Light, Anchor Light, Nav Lights, Horn, Bilge Pump, etc etc. As you mentioned ... I should hook-up every negative wire from each accessory ... to the Negative - Buss Bar.

I also have a Breaker Panel with a switch for every accessory ... Where do I hook-up each positive and Negative wire for the breaker panel and for each accessory?

This seems to be overlooked and omitted area of every Schematic and Diagram ...that I have seen.

Can I send you a schematic as an E-Mail attachment to see if you agree .... or do you have any additional schematic ... I can follow?

Thank You ... Tim

This is the same wiring diagram although it is laid out a little different and does not include an isolator.

R.P.

Thank You .. that is the type of Diagram/schematic .. that I have been looking for ... to follow-up with the accessories.

That answered all of my questions ... however..one final ... do you think with the above wiring layout that I should include a battery isolater?
.................................................
VIPLAZH ... Thank You ... I do have Photobucket .. however the schematic I drew-up is not a jpeg. ... but instead a it is on Excell Spreadsheet.
.................................................

I always recommend an isolator. An isolator is an intellegent piece of electronic equipment. It regulates charge to the battery that needs it, and when. They keep from over charging fully charged batteries and under charging low charged batteries. An isolator will also keep a fully charged battery from dumping into a low charged battery. Isolators also extend the life of a charging componant, alternator or battery charger.
