I started this sometime back and finally am getting closer to the finish, still have to close in the ends, put the decking on, change out a cable, change out 2 brackets for the pipe mounting on the piling, build a new ramp. I will probably deck the center where the ramp will set, build the ramp and install it, makes carrying the deck boards to the floating dock easier. I hope the link will work.

What kind of wood are you using? And how did you treat it? Looking good!

Re: My Floating Dock Project

They don't allow docks like that where my house is anymore. All floating docks are made out of metal framing with plastic tops.

Also, no foam flotation is ever allowed anymore. Only enclosed plastic flotation. Too many critters will eat into the foam. and the docks eventually start sinking.

The wood is the stuff you get from Home Depot or Lowes, that is what I used on the first one I built over 20 years ago lasted well and did not have the strength built in that I have put into this one. First attempt lasted over 20 years so I hope this one will last as long as I can boat.

The foam is still allowed here, they are starting to use more of the encapsulated flotation, still mostly wood frame docks, there are also metal frame with all types of decking, wood, concrete, the new composite wood. We don't have the critter eating into the flotation problem here, I am actually reusing some of the flotation, time will tell if that is wise or not, it still floats good right now.
