This is a good motor running strong with no issues whatsoever except the wot rpm is automatically reduced to max 2K when the combo encounters choppy or rough water conditions, clears itself soon after the combo encounters flat calm water conditions.

As summer is around the corner need to diagnose what's going on. Is it possible that the Wapor Separator has to do with it ? Seems the fuel filter hidden inside has not been changed in years, the main water separator located at transom is brand new recently installed. The motor has 130 PSI compression on all six cylinders and everything else seems OK.

So, is it possible for the fuel filter to be saturated with water rocking inside the filter and motor misbehaving as stated ? Plan installing a new fuel filter, main gasket and 6 new NGK BPZ8HS-10 spark plugs, is something else needed ?

Sounds like an electrical problem...loose connection?
Nope, every electrical cable has been checked to confirm they stay firm on whatever are connected to, only does so when encountering choppy or rough water conditions...

Either a ECU problem (driver board) or float in VST is slamming shut leaning out motor. Need codes checked to see if any stored.

The Merc's dealer is a very small business, only sells new motors and doubt will have the required tools to check that out with motors not being sold by them, there's many oldie high HP Evi and Merc motors stranded with several technical issues that won't see summer waters any time soon due to poor technical service, parts and experienced mechanics availability. Anyway plan disassembling the VST, check/clean the float and needle if required, install a new OEM fuel filter and valve and see what happens...?

Nope, It's actually a boating mate in plain agreement to spend $ 150.00 in new parts. Need to start from something, will see after changing those parts if the issue was canceled or continues, fingers crossed...

Yep, does have one, when the VST is opened will check all the internal components. This VST has not been serviced for years, proper time to do so.

Your not going to buy these OEM parts for $150!!! The last OEM screen I got for a customer was over $350..but I use other sources now.

Check replace your battery cables. You never said year of the boat. Just checked mine and they are TOTAL trash even though they looked ok.

That $20 filter kit is the screw on cannister with water sensor... If that motor has the early style style VST, the screen is NLA. and was $500. The only time we disagree is when you post information you clearly know nothing or are confused about.

It's an external screw on canister fuel filter system.
VST-Fuel Filter.JPG

Question if plan unscrewing it from the canister and being a pressurized fuel system assume you must press the presumable pressure relief valve located as shown and place a small container, rag whatever to collect the pressurized squirted fuel coming out, right ?

Is it possible to remove the fuel filter contents and empty them while it's turned upside down as a starter while the new parts arrive, probably with lost of water contents inside ? The bat cables are super clean, don't know if having trash cables will give that symptom while encountering awful sea water conditions ?

Motor sticker specs :

Model-Serial Number.JPG

Is it a 2011 year motor ?

shows up in parts as 2010..... 2011 is a 4 cylinder 4 stroke..

could be either 2010 or 2011 depending on quarter it was built???

whats really strange is both model and serial number shows up as a 4 cyl. 4 stroke on brunswick (Merc) parts site???

Searched by serial number with previous 1B code showed the following models :

Rear View.JPG

150HP EFI 0T801000 THRU 1B226999 or 150HP EFI 1B227000 & Up so current 1B882825 matches better the latter, right ?

The current installed fuel/water filter part 35-18458-4 with 4 ending corresponds to a black Merc filter, whereas a 35-18458-5 with 5 ending corresponds to a Quicksilver white filter, assume the ending number calls for just being a black or white filter and anyone could be used ?

Ext Fuel Filter.JPG

If the motor stops doing that after draining the current fuel/water filter will install a new one in once arrived and forget all about tearing the VST to have a look, there's many metal clamps to deal with to start with.
