I'd like to start polls on stupid human tricks. So here is the first. It might have already been done.

Re: Left the plug out.

My first year of boating I left the plug out, but someone on the ramp noticed before I launched so I was able to avoid taking on any water.

Or in my case, put the plug in but had disconnected hose for livewell and not re-connected... same result

There are 2 types of boaters. Those that have left the plug out and those that will leave the plug out.

Yeah, but indirectly.

Marina pulled the plug when they put my boat on blocks for the winter, and just set the plug on the transom but didnt tell me. It disappeared, and I told them in the spring when I was commissioning that I never received my plug from the end of the previous season. They launched my boat without telling me in advance, then had to pull it, and run to the hardware store for a new plug before launching it again. (charged me for it too)
Called me to tell me all about it afterward, and gave me crap about not having the plug in....

Re: Left the plug out.

Never actually left it out, but jumped in the water at the ramp thinking that I had once. So what is more of a stupid human trick, actually forgetting, or looking like a fool at the ramp because you thought you did??

Re: Left the plug out.

My parents 1967 Glaspar had an "Automatic Bailing Plug", let water out, but not in, so never had to worry about it. 1988 bought a 17' Chris Craft cavalier and the plug hole wasn't big enough for the automatic plug, so forgot it a few times. Also forgot the plug several times on my 1996 Glastron GS-160. Once I launched it at Sandpoint in Seattle, drove it into the auboriton (Spelling), under one of the walking bridges and idled aropund there for a good 30 minutes before my feet started to get wet, then had to idle back out and onto Lake Washington, past the no wake zone. Almost didn't get up on a plane with a 140 inline 6, there was that much water. By the time I had it on the trailer and out of the water, it took almost 30 minutes to drain sitting on the trailer (Level Ground).

DAMN, I misas the automatic bailing plug!!!!!

moto_0167.jpgmoto_0084.jpgI keep the boat in the shop, so when I get home I take the plug out wash the boat and put the plug back in. It stays in so I DON"T FORGET.

I forgot the plugs yesterday. Had the boat outside for a couple of days to make room for parking cars for my mothers funeral. So I had the plugs out of both live wells as well as the transom. Went to launch and my cousin parked the truck, come to get in the boat and asked why there was water in the boat. So now I've joined the club, Luckly there was only two women fishing off the bank... Only two witnesses other than my son and cousin.

I always put the plug in before I leave the house. Just one of my preperation steps!

In MN you have to have the plug out, so I just have it in my cup holder with the 9/16th wrench next to it, as soon as I get out to prep the boat I grab it, sometimes I make up a boat plug song on my 3 minute drive to the ramp.

Re: Left the plug out.

I guess you can put me in the "not yet" category. Been pretty fortunate so far but I'm sure it will happen one day. I used to keep the plug in the cup holder at the helm with the wrench I used to secure it with. So when the cover went off before I set off to the lake I would see the wrench there and it would remind me to install the plug. And since I would have to get in the boat to raise the outdrive, as I would store the boat with the lower unit down so it could drain and not pinch the bellows, it would be right there in front of my face.

Re: Left the plug out.

I usually make a habit of putting the plug in when I get home. One day we went fishing an my father in law starts telling me there's a lot of water. I turn around and he's floating on the cooler in the back of the boat. I put the plug back in and it took a long time to pump all of the water out. That was a close one. I double check it now.
