I found some dry rot on the inner keel of my 29' Thompson in front of the engine compartment. The boat has twin v6's stringer mounts, so just to make sure the rot didn't consume the keel under the stringer mounts I cut an inspection hole and noticed that the inner keel didn't have any fiberglass on it. Is this normal or is this something the manufacture missed and should it be glassed up? Thanks In Advance. Stuart

Re: Inner Keel

i wrote about this many times..

fiberglass & fiberglass soaked with polyester resin,,, does nuthin' to prevent rot... fiberglass is just a cloth & polyester resin allows rot causin'water molecues to pass rite thru it... as if it wasn'there at all...

also ,, polyester resin is NOT a glue & truly does not bond to wood...

so it doesn't really matter if it was 'glassed' or not....
