Mine will often bounce around at idle (it's obviously the tach misbehaving), but by about 1200 RPM it's working perfectly. It has been like that since the day I bought it and I guess I just learned to ignore it. If you find a way to settle it down at idle then let me know, that would be a nice bonus, but if it's like mine then it should work great as soon as you're a hair above idle.

Ok guys getting ready to test the motor with the new flywheel but saw some oil on the midsection…what do you think? Oil pan gasket? I’ll have to remove the cowling to see exactly where. I’m praying it’s residual from my oil service and valve job/cover removal…but I doubt it.

That's a good bit of oil. That plastic cowling is held on by I think 2 screws. I tried to remove mine once but the screws were stuck from years in salt, but they look pretty easy to drill out if you really want to get it off. If that came from you having the valve cover off then you should see a bunch of oil down near the dipstick under the hood.
