Getting out of the bay

I'm located near Smith point bridge South bay. That area is notoriously shallow and at this point I want to start getting outside of the Bay. I wanted to know if anybody had any input on the first time offshore and maybe a close destination to start with. I've had my boat now 3 years and I'm on it almost every weekend and I'm feeling more confident and want to start venturing further out because the primary reason for getting the boat is fishing. I have a 88 21ft sea ray laguna. I'm also looking to maybe follow a more experienced Captain out.

Can you be more specific about your location? Canada? UK? USA? Which state/province, etc.?

Ah. I'm in west central Florida, so can't help with your area. We have plenty of the shallow stuff around here too. Good luck though!

Do you have a gps/chart plotter? Fish finder/depth finder? Is there any type of buoy lines marking the shallow spots?

Looking at the charts, it looks following the LI Intercoastal up to Moriches Inlet is your only option
