HELP! I have a diagnostic problem. The gas gauge lights up when togle switch is engaged but the ga. registers zero. I know there's plenty of gas in the tank because I filled it. How can I figure out where the problem is? Is it the sensor in the tank, the gauge of the breaker switch or the breaker panel? The toggles for the bilge pump and fish aerator and nav. lights work well. I'd be much obliged if one of you electrical geniuses can dope this out without fancy equipment. I am a cretin when it comes to electrical issues. Thanks in advance for your help.

Replying to a very old thread but checking the fuse, then the connections for corrosion would be a first step. Also metering the output for the required voltage couldn't hurt. Look at the gas tank and the connection may have dirty or corroded connection. But before you do anything with a gas tank it's best to disconnect the battery, negative side first and take great care not to cause any static charges because of potential fumes.
