Broke impeller shaft help!

The impeller shaft broke today out on the River. What would cause this? Not sure what to do. Found a replacement water pump shaft but I don’t know if I need bearings, seals gaskets or anything else. I will probably have to have a marine shop do the install

Definitely seals and gaskets as you need to fully disassemble the upper drive half to replace the shaft

Might not need to change the shimming, bearings and gears but the only way to know is by inspecting and measuring with the new shaft installed

Ok any idea or ball park what parts and labor would cost for this type of repair? I did notice some transom oil around the broken shaft

No clue

But you'll most likely have a tough time finding someone who will work on it. Have to find a shop willing to work on older stuff with someone capable of doing the work properly. Maybe an independent guy who works primarily on sterndrives, there's a few around
