the fella i bought my boat from took the 225 fitch off and installed it on a 19ft bayliner, had it out twice last fall hit a log and took out his trim pump. he bought a new pump and had the boat out this weekend, coming into the river of Lake Michigan at 45 mph his 9yr old daughter was thrown from the boat while he was flung to the other side of the boat head first then the loose battery smacked his leg. well the nut holding the steering tie rod came undone, he didn't install a new lock nut when he installed the motor and just as bad, this single steer system is only rated for up to a 150 hp. they are both lucky, both have a couple bruises. this guy has been around boats all his life and has done allot of swapping and to the point of good enough, well he has educated him self and realizes how lucky he was with his daughter. be careful out there and have fun

After that many maintenance mistakes, dumb driving, and endangering the life of a child, he should sell the boat and stay home. There is NO excuse.

As I get older I find myself saying more and more....."It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt"

For people who use boats for speed and pulling skiers/tubes/wakeboarders I really feel the motorcyle analogy applies-There are those who have had an accident and those who will have an accident. No matter how safe YOU are, you are subjecting yourself to them ignorance of others.
