Buddy looking at a 2006 boat and he sent me a picture of the engine. The air cleaner housing has specs listed and it shows 5.0 [ 350cid ] written just like that with parentheses as shown. Along with a big 5.0 in the center. A 350 is a 5.7 so what gives with Mercruiser showing it as possibly a 350 ? A bit confused on that. Also its a TKS which stands for turn key start, what exactly is that ? fuel injected or some gimmick

Picture is not showing up. Serial number is 1A332609 which is on a separate decal on the air filter that also displays mfg date 08 and displ 5.0 I am sure its a 5.0 but was more curious as to why they would put the 350 cid next to the 5.0

that serial says 5.0 MPI Alpha or Bravo drive
The serial number has it to be a MERCRUISER 5.0L TKS ALPHA... Model number 4M11025UU.

That's a 305 cubic inch, not 350. TKS is a perculiar type of carb with an enrichment system (electrically operated) that replaces the choke butterfly. Supposedly it helps the engine start easier. The jury is still out.

I understand it's a 5.0 but was wondering why in the world they have 350 in parentheses next to it. Ok on the TKS,thanks.

I would like to see a picture of what you are seeing. The 5.0 is a 305 and the 5.7 is a 350. Mine is the 5.7 and it doesn't have a ci written, just the 5.7 on the plastic cover.

Something sounds modified on that flame arrestor decal. Which boat is it? Lot's of smaller boats won't offer higher than a 5.0 anyway. Maybe a bad comparison, but larger boats 20 feet and above stopped offering a carb option and you got MPI whereas smaller models held onto the carb option forever making me deduce this is a smaller boat that likely wouldn't have offered a 350 and it would only be a 350mpi anyway. There are some exceptions in there so there isn't a hard and fast rule as is the case with anything boating as I have seen some smaller but newer boats that still somehow offered a 5.7 but a modern 5.7 is always an MPI to my knowledge whereas 5.0 on down kept the carb model available.

The actual boat is irrelevant. All boat builders buy their engines from either Mercury or Volvo for sterndrives (there are others but their market share is so small it rarely shows on any stats).... All we need to know to help with engine problems is ENGINE make, model, year and serial number.... :D Generally, we don't care if it's in a Bertram or a Bilgeliner.

I private messaged mr88 for his email to forward the photo to me to see if I could help....It looks like a undetected misprint from Mercruiser if there hasn't been any recent service bulletins about any engine model/flame arrestor decals needing to be replaced. Merc has had a few of these in the past....Most where more important then having a wrong CID... Such as wrong timing and firing order.

Seen anything from Merc about this one as far back as 2009? I don't recall one personally.

Would love to see a picture of the air filter and decals you refer to.
Just FYI...as far as I know the MPI range goes below the 350 mpi. There is certainly a 5.0 and 4.3 mpi and maybe even a 3.0 mpi.

Now I am completely confused. Fun Times picture of the outdrive shows up ok ,but the one everyone is asking for, THE DECAL, isn't showing up. Yes the " air coupler" is for attaching the kicker to the outdrive so you can steer it. That particular boat is now outfitted with Auto Pilot so it is not hooked up.
