40hp Cranking Issue

I have a 1648 fisher and decided to move my batteries to the front of the boat. To get the power back to the outboard, I ran 4 gauge power and ground wire from front to back. When I crank the engine, it will act like the battery is dead (for just a second) then it will spin then crank. I have copper connectors on the ends and the wire is run down the side of the boat. Is it doing this b/c the power is having to travel 18 or so feet or is there another problem.

Thanks

You may want to have your battery load tested with a good load tester. For the feet you're running the cables you're right on the the line between 3 and 4 gauge wire.

Thanks for the reply. The battery is brand new as of last Saturday. The other battery, purchased in March, had gone bad so I took it back and got a new one. Do you think this one could be bad right off the bat?

Does it crank normally when using the shorter battery cable?
I've extended my battery cable 15 feet (4 ga) without any problems starting.
