Hi all,
Was wondering if any of you would like to share your opinions and care advise on the Mercury 90hp 2 stroke engine. I just bought a pontoon boat with this motor on it and most of my experience is with a 1969 Johnson 55 and a 1985 OMC stringer 3.0.
Just looking for thoughts and wisdom from those with more experience then me.
Thanks!

Family has a 2001 90 3cyl on a 24' tritoon on a freshwater lake in Virginia. Has over 850 hours now. Motor always vibrates a bit between 1700-2100rpm,have replaced the rectifier once, the waterpump 3 or 4 times, fuel hose and bulb 2 or 3 times. Has never idled smoothly as a 88SPL Evinrude we had on the last boat. Usually cruise at 3400 to 4200 rpm. We use any type fuel during the summer when busy but switch to non ethanol after labor day. I do the work on it hanging on the lift or in the water. IF I had it where I could work on it, I would replace all the rubber gas and oil lines under the cowl because of age.

Get a factory service manual and follow the recomendations. The factory knows what is best for there motors. First thing I would do is replace the water pump just to be sure. Check all the fuel hoses outside and under the cowl. Check lower unit for any signs if leaks, drain and refill then give her some test runs !!
