good choice re kiting your oem pump , i have had a few bad experience with china ones , including one that melted at the first sign of fuel running through it ,WTF .
i just re read post #48 , a long time back i worked on a 1999 150 , PIA was doing a similar thing , after i was about to chuck the towel and stick it to parts file i gave it one last chance , this time out of desperation i messed around and hot wired the POS ( nothing external just basic engine wires .
it come to life on trial run , turned out to be the tach had an issue ,i discovered that tach is more complex than it looks , i controls lots of things including the RPM limiter ( that's another story
). .
now ,from memory , i don't think it alone can be disconnected for testing (try if you have the notion ).
good thing is these days they are cheap and plenty full so a trial with a used or borrowed unit should be cheap and easy , that is if the motor does not fire with the plug on the back pulled .
