Im looking at motors and came across a 1987 Force 85 with all the controls for 900 and he says it runs good.

Is there anything in particular i need to know about these motors before i go look at it?

Is this motor made by chysler or was it after the mercury buy out?

And are these good reliable motors and does it seem like a fair price?

Force weren't really bad motors, but they were old technology.

I don't think I ever saw one I would give $900 for.

Im planning on offering 600 then maybe going up to 900.

It includes all the controls and tilt/trim.

I prefer old technology cause i can work on it.

Does anybody happen to know if this one was a mercury or chrysler?

Well, perhaps with PT&T and controls $900 might be a fair price.

I could be wrong on this, but I think Chrysler went away before 1987.

I think im gonna go look at it this afternoon. He says it runs good has new impellor/ water pump and new headgaskets.

The plan is to show up and pull out 600 cash and work from there.

I'm no expert but everything I've read states:

'84 is when Brunswick took over & started stamping them w/ Force. Essentally a '87 is still a chrysler motor but many, many different models as they were using ALL the shelf parts to put them together. bet if you look up that year you may see as many as 40 different models for an 85hp. I have a '84 & that year has 4 models.

Mercury started adding their technology in the early 90's

+1 on doing a compression test!

Totally love the older tech, real easy to work on, little maintenance & has been very dependable.
