Hello everyone. I recently purchased a Cobra/Bayliner boat with a 1990 force 150 on it. Picked up the boat (good condition), with motor and trailer for a good deal. However, I brought it to the marina for a once over and the mechanics said I need a Stator(quoted $500) and a CDI pack(quoted $485) in order for it to run correctly. The previous owner had the lower unit replaced, Powerhead rebuilt, and Tilt and trim done 3 yrs prior. Compressions are 148,135,120,135,140. My question is should I spend the $1000 or am I wasting my time. The Marina Has a mariner 135(1994 I believe) rebuilt and is asking 2500 for it installed. Any advice would be appreciated. Also if I do repower, I have a force engine available with a good powerhead, lowerunit, prop and most electronics up for grabs. Your thoughts and input would be truely appreciated. Thanks.

Less than half the cost the marina is charging you. I know you can possibly get them even cheaper by searching on line.

Are you handy? Do you have a manual?

I am a small engine mechanic and a union electrician. I guess I'm going to order the Manual and make this a winter project. When I get the manual I'll dive into this project and keep you all updated. I may ask for advice from time to time . Thank you Pnwboat, for leading me to the parts. I guess that's why they call them stealerships. $600 more for the 2 parts then I can buy them here!

There are already many posts on these subjects. Search using different terms and read them before jumping into anything. The electronic units (CDI modules) have special requirements and, if you don't follow them, you fry the module and the stator.
