Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

Going to be doing this project soon. I think I have settled on Dacromat and will probably be replacing the actuator as well. If anyone has a recommendation on a kit, it would be much appreciated!

    Which hull brands to avoid

Yup, replacement costs are absurd. That is why I will not be selling my older boat. Ironically doing a pretty major cosmetic fiberglass/gelcoat repair on it right now LOL!

Keeping the rain and wind off us on the water

This is why I don't like center consoles...I would never have a boat without a windshield, bimini/hardtop, and canvas isinglass. That being said, you could get a t-top and close the console off with full plexiglass windows or canvas.

    Boat Trailer Bearings Question

    Weird. Definitely replace the o-rings.

    Transom straps

All this, X1,000. I use boat buckles over winch straps. Much easier to get them fully tight.

Every title is not in seller's name

You can. Done it (bought insurance on a new to me boat, that hasn't been titled yet) many times when trailering, transporting, or storing new to me boats. My point was to say that as soon as the legal agent who possesses the title, whether they've registered it in their name yet or not, gives...

Every title is not in seller's name

List them and we will research this together. Other vehicles are irrelevant to a discussion on common practice with boats. The states that bill vessels under property tax like Deleware are an exception also. USCG documented boats also typically require no tax to register at the federal level so...

Every title is not in seller's name

This is almost always true for outboard motor vessels and gets gray for inboard vessels, which are sometimes classified as permanently mounted engines. However, the workers at the DNR/DMV are usually pretty clueless, so if you buy a typical sterndrive boat for like 12K and have the seller...

And fiberglass can be repaired good as new. Aluminum cannot. That is also true.

Every title is not in seller's name

You actually don't have to register and pay the USAGE tax on a USED boat if you don't plan to use it or it is undergoing a refit and not in seaworthy condition. Most states don't have sales tax for used vessels, but rather USAGE tax that you pay in order to title and register a vessel. That is...

Every title is not in seller's name

I have, on a few occassions, bought a boat, not registered it, and then resold it. Usually I have done this when I find a good deal in the offseason or need a parts boat. It is very common practice and there is no point paying tax on a boat one isn't going to use. What you need to make sure of...

    Which hull brands to avoid

Yeah, I'd never buy an aluminum boat over a 12' jon boat, with the exception of maybe a Marinette or a large motor yacht. They are fugly, ride loud, ding easily, corrode, and leak at the rivets. The welded structure stress cracks over time as well, especially if you use it any sea. They also...

Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

I would love to go EoH but it isn't in the current budget. Maybe it's best I rebuild my actuator and then replace with EoH when I can swing it.

Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

The dacromat stuff is sounding like what I need.

    What is dacromat? Galvanized?

Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

I probably should go for stainless. My existing actuator could probably be reused if I replaced the gas shock.

Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

Hey guys, I'm sure there are folks here that know a lot more than I when it comes to boat trailers. I currently have a ~5,200 lb. Chaparral on a 1996 tandem Tow Master trailer that fits perfectly and pulls no problem behind my Durango R/T. The trailer has new bearings, tires, and is in excellent...

    Which hull brands to avoid

The point wasn't to compare a Mercedes and a Jetta. It was a metaphor. I have no dog in that fight and would probably never buy one no matter how much money I had. For boat's it is often very different. Better boats have better materials, wiring, design, build quality, vinyl, layout...
