Engine backfired and now won’t start

I am not sure what ignition you have, but if its points I'd replace them and the condenser. Your issue sounds exactly like they have reached their useful end.

    Bravo One Cooling/Flushing

I have looked a bit and don't find an answer or even a similar question. Can I install a fitting into the water pickup hose between the pump and the leg so run on the engine on a hose instead of using muffs on the leg. The reason is the muffs I have either dont fit well or the set that does has...

Tilt and Trim wiring on Mercruiser

Both trim sensors don't function. I have a Bravo One drive with the reservoir for the drive oil and it has a sensor of some sort in the bottom of the bottle with 2 wires. It is wired into one of the trims sensor wiring. Is that correct? I cant see how it is, but I also cant seem to locate any...

    Rocker arm discoloring

Wondering if engine guys have seen this. It’s from my 454 Mag. Only one with discoloration and it looks like it got hit with a grinder at some point. Near as I can tell the motor has never been apart and has very little wear. But this one rocker is weird. Pushrod is not damaged at all and no...

"Project Basket Case" Bilge Paint (89 Baja 250 Sport rebuild)

This past weekend got the ball rolling on my "Project Basket Case" or so I am calling it because I purchased the boat in parts from a previous owner who also had bought it taken apart from the previous owner to him. Started with degreasing and sanding the bilge area. Then painted with 3 coats...

    454 Magnum ID tag

Can anyone tell me or point me to a place to check what engine this is by the ID tag on the carb? The tag says, 454 MAG B 7.4L SRX-H 1347-9863 The engine is NOT the same that the boat was born with. Per the casting numbers on the block its a 10237297...454..96-up...4-bolt, Vortec 7400"...

    Project 89 Baja 250 Sport

After a lengthy absence, Im back with a new project. I likely won't be starting on it until warmer weather as I dont have a pole barn big enough for it to fit in. Yet!?!? The wife says I can build one this summer if I want to. :) The boat, First off let me say "Its a basket case" but I could no...

Less than impressed with new forum. Just my opinion.

I have to say, that while I have been on this for some years this iteration of the forum is not my favorite. I find it cumbersome and clunky to use. Nothing seems to be where it should be or easily accessible. I evidently made a new post with nothing in it, when I was not even trying to make a...

    Traded in the old Starcraft.

I traded in my 84 Starcraft yesterday on a new to me 2003 Jayco 5th wheel travel trailer. Poor old boat had sat for a year with no love or attention at all. :( I am hoping that she will find a good home. I will miss her tremendously. But on to the new, now I can sleep in comfort and pull both...

    Soft or Hard Tackle Boxes

Re: Soft or Hard Tackle Boxes I like the 3700 speed bag. I can take one or two with 3, 3700 boxes in each. I can also mix and match as needed for each trip.

How to anchor 'toon at the sand bar?

Re: How to anchor 'toon at the sand bar? Some people take a length (3 feet or so) of 3" pvc pipe with an angle cut on the bottom end, then put a cross bar of some sort about a foot from the top. Then they just push in into the sand right by the boat and use it for to tie to. I have 2 steel...

New Triton F/S heeling to one side. ???? (updated)

So my brand new (2011 bought new last winter) Triton 190 Fish and Ski has started to lean to the drivers side to a great degree when coming off plane, and to a lesser degree when accelerating. I really don't think its a weight issue as it will do it when there is no gear at all on the boat, or...

Finally bought a brand new boat. (with pics)

I signed the papers on my brand new boat yesterday. Its a new 2011 Triton 190 Escape SE with quite a few extras including the lighted Triton in the trailer. Plus I have free winter and summerizing for 3 years with shrink wrap included. Also because its a new 2 year old boat I got a killer deal...

    My biggest Catfish ever!!!

This monster weighs 31 lbs. Its the biggest one I have ever caught and I got him on 10 lb fluorocarbon and a fineness rod. It took about 15 minutes to get him to the surface and another 10 or so to get him in the boat. I was fishing a Bass tournament on my birthday no less.

Wood that does NOT react with fiberglass

Im making a trolling motor mount and some gunwale steps. I cant afford Teak (unless I have to), what wood is not going to react with the fiberglass? I know there is epay (cant spell that) but is oak or something else a good choice? It can be replaced every couple years if needed but I dont...

So i'm starting my Bachelors Degree, actually its the second qtr already. This is the 3rd time I have decided to futher my education. The others have been tech schools for truck driving, (not the crappy schools they have today) and for auto mechanic. I have enjoyed each of the schools, but this...
