Replacement Model and serial number plate

I think I will try to find one that is clearly a replacement but close to what the original would look like. If I ever sell it (I like this motor), I can disclose it was replaced and show the plug so they can do their own validation.

Replacement Model and serial number plate

I am pretty confident it is not stolen. It had been rebuilt and painted at some point. It had a sticker and was not a riveted metal plate. I looked at another 48spl of the same era. It's a 1989 Johnson 48hp SPL. The boat I bought (a 1989 Sea Nymph FM161B ) came with this same motor, so I...

Replacement Model and serial number plate

I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get a replacement model and serial number plate for my motor. It fell off at one point (it's still on the plug), and I'm repainting it and would like to have it.

    Does anyone use gearpros gears?

I was thinking that since the race was hanging over the edge. The shorter tooth left more space for oil between the teeth as it turned. I couldn't find any reviews or posts with anyone using them to confirm. I don't see many failures because I am not a gearbox guy. I don't know how the cut and...

    Does anyone use gearpros gears?

Yeah, that is what I heard. They tend to detonate.

    Does anyone use gearpros gears?

Thanks, I have a shop that said they would shim it for me. How do they hold up? Any improvements? I chickened out and ordered new, old stock OEM gear. If they don't let me return it, I will have to sell this set. What bugged me was the tooth height (1mm shorter) on the forward gear and...

    Does anyone use gearpros gears?

J48ESLCER - 1989 48hp spl. Okay, my reseal turned into a regear. During the reseal, I found chunks in my pinion. I could not get an OEM set, so I ordered a set from Gearpro. Per their website, they claim to meet or exceed OEM specs and are USA-made. Well, there are several differences from...

    WOT throttle stop question

Thank You, Then, it's not an issue. That is what I was looking for. I questioned because the service manual stated they must be "exactly verticle" at WOT. The tolerances in the syncing were to the mm, which threw up a red flag. This old motor had lots of worn parts and was way out of spec...

    WOT throttle stop question

Thanks, it is appreciated. Both of my carbs are fully closed at Idol. I pulled the airbox off to validate that they were fully closed (and not loose). The slack between master and slave is out, and they sync. When fully opened, there is a 1-degree difference in verticle pin position on the...

    WOT throttle stop question

humm.. Followed that method with one exception. Loosened the top carb (slave) adjusting the screw Rotated both throttle shafts to let them snap shut I can't press down on the adjusting tab of the top carb to remove slack. I have to press up lightly (right side bottom of slaved carb adjustment...

    WOT throttle stop question

Thank you No slack and they move exactly at the same time. This is what is puzzling. The pins are at the same position as each other at idol and off from each other slightly at WOT. Geometry should have kept them symmetrical I would think. I was just unsure if Johnson intended that to be by...

    WOT throttle stop question

I fully synced the linkage and carb, following the service manual. Everything seemed clean until I reached the last step to adjust the wide-open throttle stop. That step has you advance the throttle to the wide open position and check the throttle shaft pins on the carburetors are both...

    Aluminum Keel repair

I have been trying to find information on repairing this. The previous owner had repaired a crack in the keel with JB weld, which probably held good for years. There were no leaks this year, but I noticed it must have cracked off when we beached this weekend. (Still only a drip when filled...

The Official Post a pix of Your Sea Nymph Forum

Im refreshing a 1989 Fishing Machine 161B I picked up after n my Mom passed away in May as a distraction. Rotted decks and dirty, but the bones were solid. Honestly, we are having a lot of fun with it. My son is going to school to be a marine mechanic (from repair to fabrication) and his...
