I have a 1972 Johnson 65 HP OB that has an aftermarket tilt/trim unit. The tilt motor mounts on the Starboard side of the OB and has a "swing arm" attached to the OB.
The hydrolic arm moves up and down when not under load. It moves the OB up and down some of the time. It gets stuck up...
This is my first OB so I am still learning. I have an OEM service manual for it. Been trying to get this motor running...it was free and I only started it up briefly when I first got it a year and a half ago (before my restore project).
If I spray Seafoam Deep Creep into the carbs...and crank...
Recently, my oven has been acting up. I turn it on sometimes and it works flawlessly. Other times...I turn it on...the heating elements glow red for a few minutes..then you can hear it switch off...and the elements go dark. All the lights on the console show it still on...and eventually it...
In my service manual (for 1972 Johnson) it says to lube the Starter Pinion Gear Shaft with "Lubriplate 777". I have looked everywhere (even the Lubriplate website) and I can't find what type of lubricant this is (oil or grease) and what can be used instead.
Any suggestions?

When I removed my windshield I had to cut the bolts under the cap to remove it. I am ready to re-mount the windshield but I have found that there is no access to the bolt heads..they are blocked by the actual glass. All the frame corners are rivoted together. Do I have to drill out the...
I have a 1972 65 HP Johnson Hydro Electric OB. I got this motor for free with a boat and it started a few years ago once before I removed it from the boat and stored it for 2 years. I have re-mounted the motor and now I cant get ti to do anything....no noise..no nothing when I turned the key...
I put in my new floor.... 15/32" thick A-C exterior ply.
Faired the edges with poly and micro-ballon peanut butter.
I coated it with polyester resin (bottom before installation top after glued and screwed).
I laid 3/4 oz mat over entire floor (extending 3-6" onto hull). Coated it with...
I have been reading for about 2 days now...and I understand that a simple "use #14 wire for accessory X" is not the correct answer. I have printed out all kinds of charts saying that the wire gauge should be X if the run is Y and the amp draw is Z but, what I can't seem to locate is the...
I want to install some motion sensors for some lights inside and outside of my house. I want to be able to turn them on/off with a switch on demand without affecting the motion detection functionality.
Example:
Backyard Floodlight. I can flip a switch and turn it on..and it will stay on...
Check engine light went on yesturday and Speedometer registering "0"...computer says Speedsensor Error. I ordered a new sensor today. Will be in Monday.
Can anybody tell me where it is located and how to get to it? How hard is it to replace? I am hoping for a simple...unplug, unbolt...
I just got a great deal on an Avanti Kegerator...so I thought. It seems that the unit is known for a "less than stellar" thermostat. Alot of complaints about large fluxuations in temp (from 20* F to 60* F) without touching the dail.
My question - how hard is it to replace just the...
Quick question. I sprayed gelcoat. I now have some orange peel effect. What is the "recommended" wet sanding procedure...what grit should I start with and how fine should I go? At what point do I switch to polishing compound? Thanks.

I am re-gelcoating the bottom of my boat.
The temps have dropped to the 40s-50s. I have an enclosed canopy but it doesn't retain heat well. I may be buying a propane "torpedo" heater to try to keep it in the 60s* for extended periods of time.
I was wondering if I was apply a coat when it...
Here is what I did:
-Cut 3 pieces of exterior grade A-C plywood to fit my transom.
-Sanded.
-Wiped down with acetone (could not find styrene anywhere).
-Applied polyester resin on once side of first piece.
-Layed mat and added more resin (wetted out mat completely).
-Applied polyester resin to...
Hi.
I am slowly rebuilding a 1976 Glastron v162...I just found a 1976 Mercury 115 HP for sale locally.
My questions:
1. How do I measure to find if I need a 20" or a 25" shaft? (and how do I measure the outboard to find out which it has? - just in case - the seller is unsure)
2. It...
