    High idle

Jrato To help provide some background, with these 'modern' engines with fuel injection they use a verity of sensors (like the TPS you mentioned) and, to control the air flow for a proper idle, an IAC. Its sits on the side of the throttle body and is easy to replace. An VP branded one will cost...

    Volvo Penta Kad32 Belt Failure

While you probably already checked, make sure all the pulleys are free to rotate and not biding or wobbly.

Distributor installation – is this right?!

Unfortunately, not yet. While the weather has cooperated during the weekends, my body has not. I have had some issues with my knee the last few weeks and a recent MRI has revealed I have a crack in a critical weight bearing area – very painful! So now I have a boat with a suspect distributor...

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

Thanks all. Any thoughts on using some sort of gasket sealer between the riser and manifold? I have seen that some use Permatex 80019 Aviation Form-A-Gasket No. 3 Sealant. Thanks again.

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

Barr Risers and Manifolds came today. Sweet! While I will check for both porosity and flatness, I am looking for best practice on the mounting face. Each of the items has it mounting face painted and each face as some of it flaking off. See pic for an example. I am inclined to have an unpainted...

Distributor installation – is this right?!

Some will remember that 70’s commercial where the guy slaps his head and says, “I could’ve had a V8!” A sort of ‘duh’ moment. In reading StressPoint’s post about ‘pull it out and have another look’ was a ‘duh’ moment for me. I’ll do that to see if anything shiny or curd. So, thanks Stress! Doc...

Distributor installation – is this right?!

FT, Thanks for this, My clocking it 100% correct. My concern is the fact that the distributor did not fully seat on the block as expected. As if something was causing it to be slightly lifted off its flange. It did fully seat when clamped using the 2 gaskets but I am fearful that I am bottoming...

Distributor installation – is this right?!

2005 5.0 GXi-E. This one has me confused and unsure if something is wrong. I had the original distributor out (for various reasons) but when reinstalling it with a new gasket I noticed the base of the distributor where it seats onto the block had a slight gap. About a 1/16”. The distributor was...

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

Lou, thanks and will be doing both the risers and manifolds. Got off the other riser today but one of the bolts snapped off so that confirmed by choice. Will do the test on the new as suggested. My current decision is around the rubber boots. They seem in good condition but at 20 years old, I...

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

2005 VP 5.0 GXi-E with about 750 hrs. First 5 years a salt boat but stored on a rack, not dock. Last 10 years I have owned it and all freshwater lakes. Manifold and risers never done and was making me anxious. So, this year I got a set of gaskets to pull the risers and check them out. If all...

    Coil

I finally got into my boat today, so I took a couple of pics showing the 2 bolts for the Coil Assy. I think they are 10mm and with a ¼ drive, an extension topped with a swivel should do the job. Put a small magnet in the socket to hang onto the bolt when removed.

Doug Russell Marine bought a ton of stock fm Larson when they went out of biz and Larson did use VP items. So they may have NOS. Here is their link.

    Coil

In addition to be a contortionist and feeling your way around I find it helpful to look at what the part looks like removed (from pics on the web or a new one in hand). In the case of this coil, it can be misleading when looking how to remove it as there are both screws and rivets that are part...
