    Wood floor covering options

Ok so I am at the point to cover the floors in my Islander. I have used 3/4 marine ply and am wondering if I should epoxy first then paint with epoxy paint or if that is overkill and just painting with epoxy paint would work? I know nothing will last forever but I am just looking to see if...

    Islander hull corrosion help!!

Haha Yeah I used a hand saw and a shovel for mine and it was a pain but well worth it! I am looking at your thread now. My transom was pitted bad and also under where the fuel lines were running to the tank.

    Islander hull corrosion help!!

Thanks, that stinks about it going through! I got lucky with just some deep pits but I have seen some others with patches riveted down covered in 5200.

    Islander hull corrosion help!!

Yeah once I finished cleaning all the pitting it was only on the inside (none outside) and it didn’t go all the way through so I used marine Tex to fill the pits. I got it painted and am in process of putting back together now.

2lb or 4lb foam for Islander cabin

Yeah it is mainly storage but I plan on doing wknd trips sleeping in there so I want it to be solid. I removed all foam and replaced with board foam everywhere except in cabin because I want better support from the pour in foam there. That’s good to hear that your floor is solid with 2lb...

2lb or 4lb foam for Islander cabin

I am wondering what foam would be best for under the seats in the cuddy cabin in my 83 Islander? The seats def need some support but I am unsure if 2lb is strong enough to support the weight of people or if 4lb would be better? Any thoughts?

    Islander gas tank support

Well after taking a good look at the aluminum gas tank there are lots of corrosion pits and I def do not feel safe using it. There are probably 30-40 of these pits. I have been looking at replacement tanks but can’t find one that is a direct fit. Before I buy something that requires me changing...

    Islander gas tank support

I like the idea of aluminum because I am worried about the wood rotting. When I pulled my tank there was hardly any wood left under it. I might make up some supports from aluminum like I did for my cabin floor.

    Islander gas tank support

Ok then I will stick with 1/2 so I don’t run Into clearance issues. I have some left over 2part epoxy from the transom I could possibly coat the ply with. Thanks for the info!

    Islander gas tank support

I have tried searching but can’t seem to find any ideas about the cradle under the gas tank. It is aluminum that had wood attached but the wood was all but gone from rot. I think it was 1/2 inch plywood but not sure. Does any one have any ideas if that is correct and if there is anything else I...
