I was just wandering if you ever fixed your problem?

Sorry I didn't get back to everyone on this. I ended up bringing it to an outboard mechanic. He has now had it for a couple weeks. He made a deal with me that if he didn't figure out what was wrong he wouldn't charge me. I talked to him a couple days ago and he still hadn't figured out what the problem was. It kind of sounded like he was stumped. I will keep everyone informed of what he finds out.

tysidor,<br />I am new, so please excuse me. But did you change the power pac. Or does it even have one. I had a 140hp that acted very much like yours. It would only act up at hi speed. G

Sorry I didn't find this thread sooner

Beg, Borrow or buy a DVA Meter and test your stator.

Another simple test is to draw out the spark to see how big a gap you can get.

The clues where limited rpm under load

yet unloaded you reved it significantly higher.

It takes serious voltage to bridge the spark plug gap at full load versus 'unloaded', the actualy cylinder pressures are totally different, more load AND more rpm = higher PSI which requires an increasing voltage to bridge the gap.

Most of these ignitions will throw almost 1 inch spark at high rpm

get the meter, prove your stator weak, then replace it.
