This Franken Merc I have doesn’t have a voltage regulator on it. The best I can tell it’s a mid eighties xr2 block and whoever rebuilt it put all new aftermarket electronics on, stator, switch boxes, rectifier…but no voltage regulator. I’ve been running it for a few weeks now with no issues…should it have one?

YES YES YES !!!!!!!!!
If you get the voltage too high ? You WILL WILL destroy ignition parts. I did that on 1 of my Evinrudes.

with a "good battery program" and if you run any type electrics at all, even if you use tha tilt n trim while ya runnin', no regulator will be fine... never ran one on any of my 16 amp stuff both production and high performance motors for a lotta years... jus make sure ta keep healthy batteries........ jmo

omc stuff is a different deal......................
