I don't have any first hand experience to base my decision so I'm looking for help here. I've narrowed my choice down to either a 2002 Yamaha 150VMax 2 stroke carbed model or a Yamaha F115 4 stroke. Read the posting here about opinions on the article of 2's vs. 4's. A lot there about the 2 stroke DFI's but not much about the carbed units. The boat weighs 1315# and has a recommended range of 50 to 175 hp. I'm told with the 115 it will hit 42 to 45mph (not bad I guess). The money for either is about the same. How about giving a guy new to boating your opinions on which is the better/smarter buy.

It all depends on what you want.

4-stroke = quiet, much better fuel economy, longer life, no oil to mess with, and better resale. The F115 will be a little lighter and being lower hp, give less speed.

The 150 2-stroke will surely burn much more fuel, require oil for injeciton, be louder, etc. But it's got more power and would move that boat very well. It's a tried and true motor.

45 mph is good enough for me.....so I'd choose the fuel injected 4-stroke F115. :)

Howdy, Buckeye.

I agree with everything Forktail said.

I'll just add that I don't think I've talked to even one 4 stroke user who would ever go back to 2 stroke.

Good luck. :)
