Yamaha 9.9 wierd choke-ish behavior

2012 Yamaha 9.9 High thrust trolling kicker motor

She runs just fine for a while... sometimes for a couple of hours... then for no reason she starts to run like the choke is out... won't get any rpm's and runs extremely rough.

The "quick fix" is to pull the choke out for a couple seconds and then push it back in. Then she runs fine for a while before repeating the whole thing again after some variable amount of time.

I'm stumped and can't find any answers.

What is the position of the choke plate when it starts to run erratically?

I would check to see if you find water in the filter or carb bowls.
sometime if a small amount of water gets into a carb jet, pulling the choke may help suck it thru to let gas flow again

This is only a thought I had

to me I do not see how a motor that was running too rich could be helped by making it even more rich by pulling the choke

Dying fuel pump . Or watery gas collecting in the carburetor.
