I have two new 225 4-strokes that are acting funny at high RPM's 4500 to 5500. Both engines are cutting out at separtate times for just a split second or so. It drops to 2500 to 3000 and then right back up. It sounds like they are starved for fuel. I checked the water separarters and no water present. Any ideas???

Re: Yamaha 225 Four Stroke

I have a 200 HPDI 2001 and was never used until this year. I am having the same problem. I was told it could be the wrong prop size. I changed the water/fuel separater and things staayed the same. the year is over and I can'ttry a new prop until next year. Please let me know if you hear anything else. Good Luck

Re: Yamaha 225 Four Stroke

Hello
Hiyas PT.
its a long one but here we go. has any work been done involving battery cables? was the update/safty recall perfomed ? if the battery cables or terminals are loose you will lose ign and fuel. some times it will come and go like the key switch is cycling. if you suspect its fuel the have someone pump the fuel primer bulbs while the engines are acting up. have you check to see if your F225/200 is overcharging? yhere is a recall for that on some models as well. if the engines act like they are starving you can hear the high pressurepumps whine like they are grinding rocks. if this persists take it to a dealer or buy the high pressure fuel gauge and watch the rail pressure while its acting up. the FI system on that motor is very simple and so far has worked well.
Good luck and keep posting

Check where the fuel lines go through the lower pan and into the engine fuel filter.I have seen the pre-fab 90' rubber hose closed off from a bad installation.

I had a similar problem on an old 1986 Johnson.
My fix was the replacement of the voltage regulator.
I don't know if this applies to a newer 4 stroke motor?
The description of the problem sounds similar.
Good luck.
