Bought a new 88 Center Console with twin 85's.Lot's of steering tourqe.
We were fishing about 20 mi off Ocean City,Md.The steering cable broke.Long ride back in.
No problem as I worked at the dealer where I bought the boat and a hydrolic steering system was expensive but at cost I went for it.
I lived about 3 hrs.from the ocean.Did the repairs and planned a trip offshore for the next weekend.
WE get there and start out about 4:30.Put the boat in the water and start heading out and almost ran into a another boat and then the dock.
The hydrolic lines were hooked up backwards.
We tried to steer it like that but NO way.I had to crawl under the dash and swap the leads.
It went ok but I was a little seasick from being under the dash. That lasted all day.
Now I always double check MY work.Jerry

Re: Wrong hose

I know how that feels, On my last boat I took the rack and pinion out to service and lube it while I was replacing the floor in the boat. It was a month before it was time to put the rack back in, and I mounted the rack on the opposite side of the pinion by mistake. Makes for a big surprise the first time to go to turn the boat. I guess if we didn't screw up once in a while our lives would be pretty boring, and if now one is hurt and no damage done we can tell stories about it and laugh.
