Wrapping vinyl around inside cutout

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there are any good videos or pictures of how to wrap vinyl around a cut out? I am wrapping vinyl around the inside sides of my boat. In the middle, I have a rectangular cut out. I'm just curious what's the best technique for doing this? Thanks!

I assume by the "inside sides" you mean the side panels of the boat ... basically these

If this is the case, nothing special. Just make sure the edges of the cut are routed to break any sharp edges that might cut through the vinyl. You don't need to use a router, a sander with 80 grit sand paper will do.

Get a stapler with stainless steel staples and tack one corner and continue to spread the vinyl and just tack it in with one or two staples as you go. If you don't like how it looks, remove the staples and finesse it to your liking. When it looks good to you, you can either start to staple the heck out of it on multiple rows or cut some plastic and use stainless steel screws to provide a frame to hold the vinyl.

That's exactly the part of the boat I mean. However, in your example you have separate pieces of vinyl wrapped on the bottom and top of the cutout. In my case, I have one solid piece. I tried to upload a picture...But I keep getting an error no matter what I do. Perhaps, I will try IE.

What Kind of a Cut out? You mean something like the cutouts for speakers or cup holders???

It's very similar to the pic above that DeepBlue2010 posted. But, where that rectangular cutout is.....I will have a hinged door that will close shut. But, the biggest difference is....my vinyl is one big piece...not in separate pieces like his.

I think I need to cut the vinyl with a 2 inch cushion all the way around the cutout. Then, cut slits so I can properly wrap it around the cutout. But, was hoping to find some videos or pics before I attempted it so I don't screw it up.

Corjen - do you happen to have any examples of an inside cut out like that but a rectangle instead of curves?

Hi ax...there is a nice tutorial on posting pics in the forum rules and guidelines section of the stickies, at the top of the forum. But the secret for me was getting an ap that let me reduce the file size to a level that iboats could take. Phones and cameras take pics at gigantic file sizes these days...the ap cost me .99 at the ap store. A few experiments were needed to see how much to compress the file size... it it's easy and works great.
