Looking to remove the contact paper on the sides of my boat. Just curious if anyone else has done this and what they replaced it with. Carpet? Paint?

Any ideas or pictures of your modifications are appreciated.

I was out on lake this weekend and my 1972 Nineteen ran like a top! Even had the opportunity to tow a neighbors $60,000 boat back to his dock!

What side of the boat area are you referring to...inside or outside...? I’m hoping inside since you talked about carpet as a replacement option. I would think that a heat gun (or hair dryer) would heat up the contact paper for easier removal. As to what you want to replace that with is anybody’s guess. There are so many options and price ranges too.

i've still got the contact paper. however AristoCraft posted up a sweet Nineteen that looks like it has carpeting instead of contact paper.
check this one out! gotta love that blue... one of the best pics of a Nineteen imho...

Thanks for the link Ziggy. I like the carpet look! I am debating between carpet or painting it to match the color change i am doing. My 72 was originally gold but previous owners painted the top red. I am changing the color to a royal blue.

If you were to ask me, I would strongly suggest you stay with either the contact paper or the carpet. the contact paper was used until the 79-80 models, and which time they used carpet. so either way would have been used, and would be in keeping with what was from the factory. The contact paper can be bought at numerous places online, included ebay. HOWEVER make you you get a flat finish, not gloss.

If you go with carpet, I would suggest something with extremely low pile. Even the I.O. carpets can be a bear to work with on a tight radius.
