1987 Rinker V180 with the 3.0l. Took the boat out and it seemed to be cutting out here and there, sometimes coming back to life and sometimes completely dying.

Took carb apart and cleaned it, replaced coil, plugs, cap, and rotor.

Put the boat in at the launch, fired right up and ran perfect. Ran at ~4300rpm across the lake to our swim spot. Shut the boat off, swam for a while. Went to start the boat again and it started quite rough. Put it in gear and started moving, it cut out for a split second but came back, then very shortly after completely died. Doesn't feel like it's bogging down at all, just literally cutting out instantly. Took the distributor cap off and there is still spark at the points. Can also still hear fuel being sprayed in the carb when pumping the throttle.

No idea what the problem could be at this point. I've googled left and right and replaced what I thought could be bad.

Any help is appreciated.

When was the last time the points and condenser was replaced?

Are you getting full 12V when cranking?

service the points

file them, gap to .018, verify the dwell is about 32 degrees, then set timing.
