Hi all,
I just finished rebuilding my carbs. They are the newer WMK carbs found on the inline 6's. In the process busted 2 of 3 main jets on the carbs (.076") on my Merc Inline 6. I've got the new ones installed already and been reading up on the carbs, and some posts found on the net have said to completely remove the air vent (.096") and throw them away, because in the "mid-range" it can lean the motor out too much and over heat the powerhead. Anybody else hear of this? and should I do that as well? or simply enlarge the orifice?
Thanks!

I've heard it for just about every carb Merc makes that has them. No, I don't believe it but what I do believe is that they need to be resized for today's fuels.

You need to check the Merc Service Manual for your carbs to see which direction you need to go to fatten it up. I think on those jets you need to go to a .094 to make it richer but check the manual before you trust my memory.

Some carbs like the WMH's have back draft jets which reportedly lean the midrange out and are often removed without consequence. I think this is what most are referring to and it's just kinda been misconstrued.
