Had a great day on the sea yesterday.
Beautiful weather, calm seas, empty beach.

I check and double check everything.
To the point of OCD.
My wife says I'm mad.
I laugh at these stories of dragging the skeg.
Stupid people, should be more careful. Shouldn't be allowed to captain a boat if they can't follow a simple procedure.

..........Oops :redface::mad:

Why, why why me

Just wait until you launch without your plug, then you'll REALLY be embarrassed, at least that's what I have heard...

That's just natures way of showing you that you aren't in charge of anything. Follow a simple plan and if things go awry, fix it and laugh it off later.

It is necessary to foul up once in a while so people won't think you are perfect. Nobody likes someone who is perfect.:p

Re: Why Why Why???

i've got a little 1432 aluminum jon witha seahorse 4 hp on it. One night right as it was getting dark we decided to head in for the evening. I got the little 4 horse started up and started heading in but it seemed real slow and once it picked up any sort of speed the whole boat would vibrate. Everytime it viberated I would back off the throttle and the vibration would slowly go away. I crossed the small lake with my frishing buddy and I not knowing what was going on kinda spooked wondering what was happening. got close to the dock and the engine died and boat came to an abrupt stop and started backing back into the lake. kinda thinking lock ness moster grabbed the boat I started looking around and realized there was a rope hanging out of the back of my tiny. Yep forgot the anchor.

the longer it's been since you screwed up, the sooner it's going to happen again. Be ready.

Been there done that. Went out on the lake, dropped anchor, jumped in just floating around enjoying the day.. After we were done, started up, got boat on plane and took off. I noticed something following me spraying water everywhere, OMG it’s the anchor, killed power and acted like I meant to do that.. Then pulled in the anchor. Don’t know how the line didn’t get cut up by the prop.

I knew someone that told his girlfriend to toss the anchor out,you guessed it wasn't tied to the rope!

The anchor thing is almost to easy to do.

My wife or kids cause me to do it every time as far as they know anyway.

My last oops was when I dunked the trailer to launch my boat it wouldn't budge  since I got distracted and forgot to unhook the transom straps.

Re: Why Why Why???

good stories. i once backed in the ramp. was deserted. i was tossing the shad net. boat was ready to go on the slope, but dry. motor down tran straps off. got my net caught on the first throw. tore it all to pieces. brought in only main lines. no shad no fishing.

so i jumped into the truck pissed and pulled out to go to the store for a new net. i remembered as i was driving up and looked into the mirror as my boat lifted up off the trailer on the skeg. no damage done though. that was the only time. now it stays up till im in the boat ready to start it.

Yeah, I read about that somewhere...

I agree, I imagine that kind of mistake would be really embarrassing. Especially in really cold water... and you happen to work in a job where a boat is required... a place that might rhyme with "Farmy Corps of Engineers".

Re: Why Why Why???

I watched a guy powerload, then proceed to drag his skeg up the ramp with the motor running. Tore the heck out of everything including the asphalt. My tall trailer is a pain at some ramps but it's saved me from dragging the skeg more than once. For some reason dragging the anchor happens more frequently as the sprinkle turns to a downpour. It's embarrassing, but my wife thinks it's funny.
