My daughter woke me up this afternoon (I work nights)....Dad my basketball stand fell over on your truck! Sure enough timber.....my side door and roof dented up, the pole put the dent in the top of the door and the hoop put a large dent on the roof. Then my daughter calls me at work, to tell me I owe her $2.00 because she made a 105 on a science paper I helped her on last Tues. An A is worth $1.00 but as she (we) got a 105 its worth 2 bucks! You got to love her!
I'm just hopping the damage is over 500 bucks as my deductable is 500$. Why ME?!

88spl,
Advertised in the yellow pages is Dentpro? They specialize in paintless dent removal. A dent like you have is less then $100, even if they have to pull down the headliner a little bit. Car lots and dealers use these guys all the time, they will come to you.

Skinnywater I'm thinking about that quite seriously.
Now there is the business, headlining, I've met a guy in Grand Prerie that makes a mint, Cash Only. He hires out to, some times he has 6 guys and times where there is only one. Allways has a huge wad. Nice guy. Has a runner that goes to the junk yard if he were to need the board. Corse that's alot extra, 150 175. Dang, you up north folk can have this cold, shooo, I can see the sun, but no heat!? Get outa town!

Hi 88,

Your lucky on your damage from the basketball business. My daughter backed her Accord out of the driveway and put one dandy crease from the hood to the rocker panel. She was backing and turned the wheel, and blamo- the pole contacted the driverside right behind the front wheel. $1200 to get it fixed.

One child left in the house and he is 16. Insurance for him (just liability) will be $685 for 6 months! He expects me to pay this! NOT! Keep telling him working for people is where the money comes from, not from my wallet for doing nothing. Spoiled rotten Kid! Love him dearly though.

If your saying WHY ME now, wait until they start driving! :D

I'm in the body shop industry, and if the dent is 8" around, PDR aint going to make you "good as new"... not even close. As for the "seen on tv" tool: I own a similar device (sold before the TV one came out, for alot more money) and it works generally well on hail dents caused by less than golf ball sized hail or other dents of that size. Quite time consuming, and doesn't work well on a dent in a style line or curve. Check with a Paintless Dent Removal person and see what he thinks... that's the beauty of free estimates; he might be able to get it close enough for you that's acceptable. If its just "pushed in", so as you have a nice "fish bowl", get an old bathroom plunger, get it wet and pull most of the dent out that way.

Re: Why ME!

You know Moose that plunger is looking real good about right now. If I soak it in hot water should work uh. I'v been tryin not to look at my truck, as it makes me sick to look at it. Paid 20.000 1997,not a dent till now. SS I feel much better after reading of your ordeal.

Re: Why ME!

That there dent dingy thing on TV uses some kind of glue to get the little plunger thingy to stick to the dent. How long you got to hold it in place before it will hold good enough to pull a dent out? :D
I'm with moose on the plunger thing. I have done that to "pushed in dents" and it works pretty good.
Up here you got to use what you have around the barns to work for ya.

Re: Why ME!

The dent-be-gone uses a standard hot glue gun to stick a wooden "tab" (looks to be a 1" long, 3/4" wide, round dowel of sorts) onto the body of the vehicle. The "tab" has a small screw that their aparatus attaches to. When the dent is pulled, you grab the radius of the tab and give it a twist, popping it off of the body. You then use an adhesive remover to remove the remaining glue residue from the paint.

Not saying this method will work for you with the dent you have, but you can try it with basically no out of pocket costs: Many of our wives use hot glue guns for Christmas projects and what not. Cut any small chunk of wood, and run a screw into it - leave enough of the screw out so you can get ahold of it with a vice grip. Glue the piece of wood (use a spot of glue no bigger than a nickle) to the LOWEST point of the dent, hook on the vice grip and pull up slowly. If the dent starts moving, keep pulling til it gets back to where it needs to be. If it doesn't want to move, give a sharp tug to it. You may have to re-glue the wood several times in this process. Be careful of your elbows on the truck body, as you can end up with a couple more dents. When you're done pulling out the dent, and if you don't have a professional grade body shop adhesive remover to remove the glue residue, plain old lighter fluid works pretty well as that.

If all that doesn't work(assuming you've tried the plunger method before the glue), then and only then, you may have to incur some costs to have a pro do it for you. PDR guy 1st, then body shop as last resort. The body shop will be the highest out of pocket cost of any of the things listed in this thread.

Re: Why ME!

Thanks Moose, I had to go get 2 caps for my boat trailer hubs, as I repacked them, a Northerntool shop just down the highway. They had quite a selection of dent removal tools and gizmo’s. At 2.99 they had a 6in suction cup, which fit my hand perfectly. I wet both surfaces cup and roof, applied the cup in the center of the larger dent, which after further review, there are three dents, the large dent the hoop and the other two from the rings off the hoop. Using a stepladder and one leg straddled on the hood, gave it a firm tug, and pieyow, you should have hered the noises, 1. the wonderful sound of the dent removal the sound you want to hear, 2. the crushing blow to the mouth of fist and suction cup. 3. the blow of the head to a large center beam in the garage. I laughed my but off, and so did the wife and kids, you know, are you going to laugh or cry things! No visible damage to my lip or head, and added one more story to the wife’s list of my BLUNDERS.
Oh well, the large bent is gone, and you really have to look to see the other small dents.
I have ordered Mr. Ding King, for safety purposes only. Thanks again ya’ll.

Re: Why ME!

88, I am glad you got your dent out. I had 2 vehicles that got hit by golf ball sized hail. 1 vehicle had 1 small dent that happened when my then 5 year old opened the new car door into the old car the first time I brought it home from the dealer. It was parked in the driveway 30 seconds and got it's first dent. The other was dent free. Anyway, on to the hail damage. While everyone else in the area got enough money to pay for body shop repairs, I got to sit in the insurance company's waiting room and watch a video explaining paintless dent repair and how it was going to fix the 100 or so dents on my vehicles, including the edge area of the roof that had a huge one. They then proceeded to pay me 30% of what the other people got. At that, I said the heck with it and used the money to help pay off the vehicles since I knew I was going to run them into the ground.

I was driving 65 on the highway when the hail hit. Nothing like the sound of golf ball size hail hitting your windshield. I was waiting for them to come through. The windshield held though without a crack.
