I bought a 17' AristoCraft boat recently; it's my kids and my winter project. In Illinois we have to title the boats. I have not been able to locate a serial number on the hull. It is a 17' outboard; year unknown. Prior owner had no paperwork but signed the Ill. DNR forms.

It has a 100hp Merc engine, which will need repair. Any suggestions in the Chicago area would be appreciated. Pics to follow shortly!

Re: Where is the hull serial number?

sounds like ya got a funliner.

i beleive they were produced prior to the regulation that all boats have a hin.

'72 and prior may not have a hin. '73 and after require a hin.

fwiw. my '75 w/ an i/o, has the hin molded into the glass right about my stern drive on the outside of the hull. dead center of the transom for all practical purpose.

Re: Where is the hull serial number?

I think the boat is about a '63, based on the serial # of the engine. The hull is a Funliner, without a hatch in the nose. It is in surprisingly good shape; with some engine work it should be seaworthy. It does not have the reclining seats that I've seen in some of the old adds; the seat bases appear to be glassed in to the floor. I would guess it has been in a garage most of it's life because the upper gelcoat is not all chalked out or faded. It has it's fair share of nicks and scrapes - but it does have fins !!

Re: Where is the hull serial number?

I have a 1968 19' and last night I dicsovered that there is numbers stamped into the aluminum dash trim. The numbers are centered on the dash and match the HIN# that is on the title. I am not sure if they were put there from the factory or if they were added later. Hope this helps or maybe someone can confirm this.

Re: Where is the hull serial number?

I have a 68 8-teen (2 actually) and they both have the hull # on the aluminum dash trim as Rodster55 said. My title on the boat I'm restoring shows the hull# and the engine# to be the same# however the engine had been replaced with a 74 engine so they didn't physically match. I haven't pulled the engine from the parts boat yet but I'm going to check the serial# on the engine to see if it matches the hull# on the dash trim. Maybe Scott will know where the hull # would be if it had one.

Hull number will either be on the INSIDE of the boat above the drain plug. on the floor in front of the motor well, or on an aluminum square plate by the driver. normally 4-5 digits.

I did find the serial number; it is on the inside of the transom, just above the drainplug hole - 4 digits! Thanks for the help!
