You didn't list your model number, so the first 15 hp engine I came to in 1956 lists the cylinder head PN of 277211, no longer available.
You are going to have to search out some salvage yards in your area to find a replacement.

Might be hard to find. That was a one-year motor, and even different than its Evinrude cousin. What is wrong with the old one?

model number FDE 10L, serial number 1440936, i did a carb, impeller and magneto job on it, went to put new plugs in to test spark and the bottom plug stripped right out (my grampa was a little heavy handed i think). i was gonna try to do a heli-coil but i think i should just try to swap it with a new old cylinder head from tcoutboards. they want the casting number on the head and i'm not sure of where it is... i found some vague raised numbers on the bottom near the gasket that look like 304241 but i am not sure. i also need to replace at least the bottom seal on the crankcase bearings. it came down around the driveshaft when i pulled it to do the impeller and could really use some help there.... thanks!

A properly installed heli-coil will make a lasting repair.

i heard a new thread should be a composite not hard steel like the helicoil, due to expansion ratio differences, is this true? i would need to take the head off and bring it in to a machineshop?
