When did Honda first introduce the "Charging Systems" (Ports) for a battery on its outboards?

Curious how far back these ports go, on the lower powered models you get 12amp on an elec start and 6amps on a recoil start.

Just for future reference if buying a used engine, wanting to know when this feature was first introduced?

I have a BF8, made somewhere between 1990 and 1997 (I forget exact year, but I did look it up once). It is recoil start and does have a 12v charging coil on it.
