can i have someones opinion on what type of digital hanheld tach is best to buy. i've seen ones that clip on spark plug wires, ones that point at reflective tape and ones that contact on centers of shafts, some that are included in a multi meter unit. which way should i go? i was leaning towards the one that hook over any spark plug wire. i've also seen them in combination with timing lights. thanks

Your preference. I'd go with either the timing light one or the multimeter one.

I have both and both work fine.

+1 more for Bondo's post. The optical (reflective tape) ones are somewhat useful when they work, but the planets have to align perfectly to get an accurate reading.
