whats better ...2 or 3 beam depth finder

hi,<br /> i am looking at a fish finder and at basspro.com i found a garmin 160 2 beam that looks nice and also found a eagle 3 beam thats cheaper but looks the same. what would be ur choice thanx for the info. :cool:

Are you talking 50, 200(192), etc.? The lower the kilohertz the greater the depth and the wider the beam for any given depth. Sometimes you get a additional width so as not to interfer with other depth sounders on the boat. Take a look at www.consumersmarine.com before you buy. Hope this helps. Incidently, I seem to use 200 (192). ;)

I have a new 160 blue and change all the time from 50 - 200 - dual and I run into depths of up to 600 feet. It's nice to have that option when going from striper to cod to tuna. I do like my 160 blue. It's a little finiky with reading depth at cruise speed so I need to lower the transducer a bit according to the tech reps at Garmin.
