What year is my Merc100? There is no serial plate. The boat is from 92 but the engine is not the original - it may be older or newer. The boat is on a little Bayliner I bought in Sweden, if that helps! Thanks!

Motor is late 80's, PERHAPS very early 90's.
Look for serial STICKER on the back of the transom bracket. The plate was a 70's thing.

Re: What Year is my Merc100

Thanks! So the motor IS about the same age as the boat. The sticker seems to have gone AWOL - I've looked absolutely everywhere for a plate or sticker. BTW, I forgot to mention there is a number stamped on the top - 42885-C2, if that helps to narrow in the year.

Anyway, when the motor is tipped up, oil oozes out somewhere and runs down, making a lot of smoke when the engine has been run for a while (I thought my rings were bad, like in a smoking car, then I learned that this is stupid since 2-stroke engines don't work that way!).

Apparently should be some sort of check valve on the round hole on top of the oil resevoir (see picture). Also the oil filler cap seal is bad. I'll need to order them I guess, but every store asks me "what year & model". Were all those years similar enough that if I say "1990" I should get the right part?

Thanks - if you have any aircraft design questions, feel free to ask. That subject, I know a few things about!
