Anyone know the year model for 120 HP Chrysler, Serial number 120HG95629 on id plate in pan. To me it looks like early seventies, not sure though. Needs pump kit, thermostat, and gaskets. Also is that a Torx screw at the inside rear of the exhaust/pilot housing? Feels like it might be an external torx head, don't find many of them. If it is, need to know head size if anyone knows. Thanks,Fish

Hi Fishboy
The closest my book lists is model#1209HG
starting with ser#5551 as a 1977. Sorry I at a loss with the screw size. I can't figure out which one your asking about.

Alcan, Thanks for the info, I got the L/U off now. The pump seal has made a little groove where the lip rides the shaft. How much groove is to much? CAn I fill it with epoxy? Pump needs replaced, worn pitted etc. No surprise. Another question, can I check the water flow thru the engine using a hose, Iam concerned about it being plugged up. Maybe thermostat. IS there a tattle tale on this engine? Fish

Hi Fishboy
First I have to tell you that I've only worked on a couple of chryslers and they were small ones. So basicly I know little to nothing about them. The info that I share on these rascals comes from factory/ dealer literature. I was trying to identify your screw via a parts catolog. Since your questions are somewhat general in nature I'll take a stab at it. A lot of times you can install the new seal a bit higher or lower in the pump housing. This will let it ride in a differnt spot on the shaft. I see no reason why you can't flush water up the intake pipe.Removing the t-stat during flushing would be prudent. You might want to test that t-stat before reinstalling it. If the shaft is really tore up in the seal area and you can't adjust the installation of the seal. You might be able to get a speedy sleeve. I think thats what they're called.

Alcan, I thank you again. The screw is one I just don't know about, its not a torx though. It looks like a 5/16 round head with about 30 vertical serations on it. I had seen wood screws like it before, but never a machine screw. Maybe I am just dumb (grin)Anyway it turns out, I did not need to remove the exhaust housing to get at the last L/U retaining screw. I was able to remove the last screw using a long extentsion and a swivel socket. Its location is also inside the exhaust housing, but farther in. I didn't think I could get it, but I did. Fisboy
