HI, I need to replace the transom on my 14footer and was wondering whats the best wood to use that'll last. It has particle board on it now but its pritty soft stuff so I don't really want to get more of that. Any suggestions for me??

------------------
------------------------ 9((=< Canuck friends of fisherman everywhere!!

RTDcanuck,
I rebuilt a transom once on an old 16 ft utility boat by using two pieces of 5/8 inch marine grade plywood sandwiching a 1/8 inch thick piece of plate aluminum. I then fiberglassed the whole thing to make it water tight. I dropped a 25hp motor on it and it had "zero" flex. Actually, it was better than the original. I never had a bit of trouble from it from then on.

It's really a pretty easy job and only took about 2 hours. (Luckily I had the wood and aluminum in my shop.)

Nav.
