so what is going on with spark plug$$ some kits go for 35$/8pack

l 78v permagaps 16$ cdn each ???

I buy QL77JC4 in bulk and save a little dough but not much. The latest place I purchased from had just picked up 14,000 from Wall Mart.

Apparently Wall Mart doesn't want to be in the outboard part business!šŸ˜†

ETECs... can't say if I changed them once maybe twice in 18 years and not because I had problems just because I fugured they should not have lasted so long :) ... i'll lok them up just to get ready for the big shock thankfully I have a I3 .

You need to look around, as some places do charge a lot. The Mazda brand iridium plugs for my car were $24/ea. I found some for about 1/4 of that price.

You can check places like autozone, rockauto and advanced auto parts. The latter had QL78YC plugs for my Johnnyrude for $3ea, last year.

Autoparts stores will sometimes stock them cheaper than my local dealer.

Found my QL77JC4 plugs at the local Ace hardware for $3.99 marketed under their the 828M nomenclature.

To maintain my original 5 year warranty I went ahead and replaced them at 300 hrs and just used the benchmark the whole time I used it.

Certainly was not needed.

Wait until you buy them for your hi tech electronic controlled engine in your car !! Neighbor had a tuneup on his hemi....plugs, wires, etc....over 300 bucks in plugs and wires ...no labor !!

Plug wires for a Porsche in the late 80's were close to $400 buckaroonies!

The only good with these surface gap plugs are you do not need to change them very often. They last for a very long time.
Just pull them clean them up and put them back.
Doen not matter of brand, NGK, Champion, Bosch or other.
This is my experience of them.

Actually, the only time I change the spark plugs on my outboards is when the shells get rusty and threaten to stain the powerhead.

IIRC the AC Delco 43s for my old 4.3 are like $3 each. I never seem to wear em out, I have a couple of sets that I clean and rotate in use.

I recall working on some small OMC outboards where plug gap had worn from 0.030" to 0.070"-------Means that motor / plugs were working fine up to that point.-----Many good sparkplugs are thrown out I think.
