You can call me stupid, but my Yamaha Manual says to check the ANODE every 50 hours, inspection or replacement. It says that I need to take it in to the shop. It can't be that hard is it to check it, or replace it!? Please tell me what this IS!? ANODE!? And what I need to do to check it. Thanks in advance!

Re: What is an ANODE?

The Anode metal is a Zinc Compound which prevents Galvanic corrosion which occurs when electrical current passes between two dissimilar metals. The less noble metal (ie. the Anode) "decomposes" before the stronger, more noble metal (ie. Your Outboard Shaft and Prop). <br />So Without the Anode Metal, your outboard which start corroding away and thus is very important to keep changing the anode metal when it wears off. A good time to change is when the anode metal is 1/4 to 1/2 its original size.
