What do you pay for annual boat Registration?

I'm in Indiana and just paid $180 for my yearly boat registration. What was tough to swallow was that registration was $20 something and lake enhancement fee was $25, then the other $140 was County Tax! I sure wish the DNR got more of that money. I wouldn't mind paying $180 a year if the money was distributed better. How is it in your state? What do you pay and how is the money divided up?

In California, it is $10 every other year. If the boat is documented with the Coast Guard rather than registered with the DMV, it's free. Of course, the County Assessor nails you for a property tax fee that has nothing to do with the annual registration. In my area that runs about 1.0% of the boats assessed value per year.

In Texas it is $60+ every 2 years (I think) because I don't have to renew mine until next year. I am not sure of the breakdown.

In New Jersey it depends on the length of the boat. My 19 footer is $28/year.

Pennsylvania Registration Fees
Fees cover a 2 year period, which expires March 31 of the 2nd year
Unpowered Boats $18
Motorboats under 16 feet $26
Motorboats 16 feet to less than 20 feet $39
Motorboats 20 feet and over $52

I have a 12' jonboat and a 14' runabout. I only use an electric motor on the jonboat, but that still classifies it as a motorboat. These prices were recently raised I used to pay $20 every two years per boat.

In Taxes, Just registared a 15 ft boat. Title fee, taxes(on 200.00 valuation) transfer fee, and registration fee for 2 years. All this was 77.50. Then the lady asked if it had a moyor on it. I said yes. She said I would have to title it as well. Told her I've had the motor sittin around since 1985 that I was told I had the option of titling the motor then and as far as I was concerned it dosen't need a title now. She checked out the law from back in 85 and I was right. I guess I saved probally 70 bucks there.

Sorry this turned into a rant. I didn't misspell my state on purpose but this is how I feal about Texas. What do they want next, Title your lawn mower??

Zero in Alberta, Canada.....or maybe I just didn't get a notification saying that I am supposed to pay annually....initial registration or transfering ownership is free though.

Yes, Zero in Canada since our boats are registered with the Feds,Customs Canada to be exact, but if and when the Province ever takes control I'll bet we will see user fees then.

No charge in Canada. Registration is done after intial purchase and again upon transfer of ownership. No annual renewals. In Canada, Water, lakes, rivers, and oceans are under federal jurustiction. Provinces, counties, and municipalities are very limited as to what they can do to interfere with boating. Good thing.

Edit
AS for trailer licence, in Alberta it is $30 - $50 to get the plate with no annual renewal

Hey StraightUp, where you at?

Wisconsin, dnr gets it all, $8 a year for a 16.5'. It was $5 a couple years ago.
Its more for bigger boats, but not outrageous.

Tax man does not slap a personal property tax on boats here.

State constitution limits fees to the amount it costs the government to provide the service. Thank GOD, as our income and real property taxes are high enough.

Re: What do you pay for annual boat Registration?

Florida - I pay $27.50 for 20' and $5 for an "antique" 17'. Registration is only $5 for boats over 30 yrs old. Otherwise the 17' would be $27.50 too.
