I just bought a 19' Chris Craft Lancer, not in great shape. Engine is gone, though he did safe all the components, pumps, manifolds (cracked) etc. The engine manifold says chris craft 283FLV engine # 650469. Small block chevy right? The outdrive says 200D of which i can find no info. But I am not sure that is correct. the serial # is PZ NR B 217165 D can anyone confirm the outdrive? I have a lot of work ahead of me. What service manuals would you recomend? Anyone have the parts diagrams?

He meant what YEAR is anything? Hull? Motor?
I.e. a 1978 ChrisCraft....it would be a starting point to narrow engine and outdrive choices.

If you want ID of your engine and outdrive, you need pictures of the engine and outdrive. Not the boat.

Yes, you have a 200D outdrive. The engine numbers are not traceable.

Ayuh,... That's a Lanser hull ain't it,...
I was involved in refittin' a couple of 22'ers from Stringer drives to Merc Alphas...

Nice ridin' hulls...

That 1's an antique, for Sure...

Ayuh,... Chris-craft converted SBCs are a breed of their own,...

Good luck with it...

Cool old boat. It appears to have the Chris Craft branded motor, 283 V8, mated to a VP 200 outdrive.

How does it run?

Re: What did i get myself into? No really, it'll be fun.... I think.

Thanks guys. Again, it doesn't have a motor. I'm not too worried about the motor. It's just a SBC and i have all the marine parts just need to get a long block with the right cams. I'm more interested in confirming the outdrive is a 200D and collecting info on it. Does anyone have the ability to identify the outdrive by the serial # posted? Does anyone know a good place to locate the parts manual and service manual for the outdrive? Thank you all for your help.

Its a 200. thats it. The D may refer to the gear ratio, or version designation.

you can buy some parts from iboats or at a local dealer.

That is an old outdrive, good luck with it.

I see you decided to devote to a new hobby. Been there.
I would agree with earlier posts, your looking at a year to rough it in, at least a "few" grand on a new engine, rebuilding the outdrive , and assorted parts. then redo the trailer bearings, bunks and assorted other gremlins.
you will, like i did, decide to replace the decking and transom, and ultamatly end up with a brand new 1968 model boat.
honestly, i loved doing mine, and learned bunches. i got lucky and sold it for 'nearly' what i had into it when i up sized.
understand before you invest, its a labor of love, and it takes a lot of time. they call it a new found hobby, or, the other woman.....

Thats great Lilred, getting out of it what you had in is excellent. I'm not nieve enough to think this will be easy by any stretch. One thing cool about this old boat is that it is all fiberglass including the stringers and transom. Not wood covered in fiberglass, actually all fiberglass. So that should save me some time. The deck of course will have to be redone as well as some spars but all in all the hull is in decent shape. The iterior is a total disaster. the guy used home siding to make an engine cover. The outdrive looks good and he tells me it works excellent. So hopefully i will get away with just routine maitenace on it for now, fingers crossed. I'm realy looking forward to the project.
Anyone know where i can get service manuals for the sterndrive?

That's what I read in the chris craft forums and i looked at the transom closely and it seems to be the case. Anyone else have some knowledge about this?

Howdy,

I love those old Chris Crafts!!

If it is true (all fiberglass stringers etc), or you still want to replace the floor, stringers etc, and/or you want to do a transom replacement, I would junk the old Volvo "stuff" (ebay it etc) and put a good used Merc transom mount, new SEI drive & rebuilt SBC (283/305/350/383) of your choice.....

Get'er done by AUG and I'll buy you a beer at 7 Bays Marina on Roosvelt!!

Regards,

Rick
