New to the boating world and have been trying to get this 2000 evinrude 50hp 4stroke/ Suzuki ready for the summer I’m trying to do any maintenance that should have been done boat sat for 3 years, it does run good took it out several times at end of last season. My question is the water pressure valve or poppet valve as it’s called by some is under the oil reservoir so I would have to take power head off to get to it, I’m sure it’s never been changed , should I change it or let it go unless I have a problem?

You are making a MISTAKE reading the parts diagram.-----The water pressure valve is NOT located where you think it is !

So this should be the assembly, and where does this go on the block?

I'd leave it alone and test. Run some mild soap or something. Impeller yes, stats? No.

I don't work on those motors but I've never seen a design where you don't have access to areas.
I thought it was very odd placement myself and why I’m very hesitant to pull it all apart to replace it that’s a lot of work for preventive maintenance but if it really needs to be done I will do it.

you could wait for symptoms .. i doubt the engine will wipe out

purging/flushing with commercial product should wash out mineral deposits

Picture of where it is or where you think it is. Picture worth a thousand words or video worth a billion.
