Water inlet hose replacement on Bravo 3

I am just replacing my water intake hose kit and I was wondering how to get the old hose released from inside the transom when the hose has collapsed and I cannot use the tool. I have the gooseneck let go but no way to work at the hose. As you know, space is super limited and so are my options. Would I ever release it from the outside by pulling on the hose?
Thanks

When I replaced the water inlet hoses on my twin Bravo drives, it seemed like you had to do it from the outside (bell housing removed). If the hose (and insert) has already started to collapse, you may be able to get needle nose pliers (from the inside) between the hose and insert to further break the insert up.

Here is the link to my thread on replacing the hoses.
