I have a 98 Sea Ray BR 185 which we purchased last year. It's been great except we seem to get a fair amount of lake water in the ski storage
compartment. The stern does not seem to fill up with water and I don't hear the bilge pump running but when we get back to shore there is always water in the storage area. This last trip the water was even above the drain pipe which connects to the stern/bilge area. The motor, belts, etc. looks clean and dry.

We put poured in some bilge cleaner and ran the pump and it pumped out most of the dirty water. There was no plug in the storage pipe when we bought the boat, only a broken plug chain. I bought a new plug but it doesn't seem to keep water out of the storage area.Any advice on what to look for and how to fix this?

If you have lake water in the boat it either splashed in or it leaked in.(obviously) The first thing is to figure out how it gets in. I would empty the ski well, plug the drain and prop the ski well lid open and drive around the lake to see if you have a leak in the hull. You need to find out how the water gets in! If you have an I/O, one of the hoses may leak when the motor runs.

To open the drain from the ski well to the stern, use a piece of stiff wire to clean it out and then use a hose to blast out the rest of the debris.
